CustoMED, an Israeli health technology startup, has raised $6 million in seed funding to advance its artificial intelligence (AI) powered 3D printing applications in orthopedic surgery.
With fresh capital, CustoMED plans to expand into new orthopedic applications, pursue US and EU regulatory approvals expected in 2026, and scale its on-demand manufacturing model globally.
The investment round included participation from US-based venture capital firms such as Longevity Venture Partners and Varana Capital, as well as Israel-based Flag Capital, the Israel Innovation Authority, a “leading orthopedic implant manufacturer”, and Avishai Abrahami, Co-founder and CEO of Wix (a SAAS website building platform).
“CustoMED’s platform empowers surgeons everywhere with real-time, personalized surgical planning,” said Raissa Hacohen, Managing Partner at Longevity Venture Partners. “It has the potential to raise the global standard of orthopedic care.”
The funding will help CustoMED accelerate global expansion of its platform, which integrates artificial intelligence, automation, and 3D printing to transform pre-operative imaging into customized surgical tools and implants within minutes.
Surgeries using AI and 3D Printing Implants
CustoMED’s cloud-based system enables surgeons to design and generate patient-specific surgical guides and implants directly from pre-surgical plans. Unlike traditional manufacturing methods that take weeks, CustoMED’s process can be completed in real-time, either on-site or through certified production partners.
The platform’s goal is to make precision surgery faster, more accessible, and highly personalized, allowing surgeons to maintain clinical and creative control while improving outcomes and reducing intraoperative errors.
“Our mission is to make computer-guided surgery fast, accessible, and routine,” said Or Benifla, Co-founder of CustoMED. “By putting scalable, personalized technology directly in surgeons’ hands, we are transforming what was once a boutique process into a standard of care.”
CustoMED was founded by Dr. Amit Zabatani, Or Benifla, and Alon Jacobi, originating from Sheba Medical Center’s 3D Printing & Innovation Lab. The company is a part of Sheba Medical Center’s ARC Innovation ecosystem, which accelerates clinician-led technologies. According to Prof. Eyal Zimlichman, ARC’s Founder and Chief Innovation Officer, “CustoMED is embedding precision and surgeon-directed tools into everyday workflows, shortening the path from imaging to the operating room while preserving governance, quality, and safety.”
