In 2020, Bayer set a near-term target of a 20% reduction in absolute Scope 1 and 2 GHG emissions of the Group by 2024 compared with the base year 2019.
The company achieved the target in 2024 by reducing these emissions by 21.9% to 2.96 million metric tons of CO2 equivalent (tCO2e) compared to 3.79 million tCO2e in 2019.
Individually, Bayer reduced its Scope 1 emissions and Scope 2 emissions by 9.62% and 36.84%, respectively, in 2024 (compared to the 2019 baseline levels).
Similarly, the pharmaceuticals division also exhibits a continuous downtrend in its Scope 1 and 2 emissions, collectively and individually, every year since the base year 2019.
Compared to the previous year, the pharmaceutical division’s Scope 2 emissions were down by 27.27%, while the Scope 1 emissions stayed at similar levels.
