Medical technology firm Synchrony Medical has announced the US launch of its LibAirty Airway Clearance System, a new at-home therapy designed to assist people living with chronic lung diseases such as chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), bronchiectasis, and cystic fibrosis.

The product received FDA clearance in July 2025, with the company planning to showcase the technology at upcoming national respiratory conferences.

The LibAirty Airway Clearance System combines app-guided breathing exercises with synchronized chest compressions, a method that aims to improve mucus clearance from the lungs. According to the company, this dual-action therapy is designed to help patients manage their respiratory conditions more effectively while maintaining independence in their daily care routines.

The system adapts the principles of Autogenic Drainage, a well-established but complex technique used by respiratory therapists. LibAirty integrates this approach into a wearable vest connected to a mobile application that guides users through breathing exercises.

Clinical Insights and Patient Usability

In clinical evaluations conducted prior to FDA clearance, Synchrony Medical reported that patients using LibAirty were able to clear more mucus compared with traditional vest-based therapies. The studies also highlighted improvements in comfort and satisfaction levels among users.

“Treatments for chronic lung disease should prioritize both effectiveness and ease of use,” said Wayne Barfield, RCP, RRT, a respiratory therapist at the Medical University of South Carolina who participated in the clinical trials. “LibAirty incorporates the benefits of autogenic drainage into a device that patients can manage on their own at home.”

LibAirty was developed in collaboration with respiratory experts from Sheba Medical Center in Israel. The technology is positioned as part of Synchrony Medical’s broader effort to advance at-home respiratory therapies and reduce hospitalizations for patients with chronic lung conditions.
