ten23 health, a Swiss CDMO, has entered a manufacturing collaboration with Becton, Dickinson and Company (BD) to support the commercialization of the BD Libertas wearable injector.
The partnership is designed to offer biopharma companies a fully integrated solution for the subcutaneous delivery of large-volume drugs, aiming to speed development and reduce risk.
The collaboration provides a combined offering: the BD Libertas injector platform, configured with 5 ml or 10 ml BD glass cartridges, alongside ten23 health’s “comprehensive services”. These include process development, aseptic filling, assembly, and quality control. The goal is to ensure supply chain readiness, helping partners bring high-volume subcutaneous treatments from clinic to market with flexibility and patient usability in mind.
Accelerating Development with Line 0
A key enabler is ten23 health’s recently announced “Line 0.” This non-GMP line allows pharmaceutical customers to test cartridge compatibility, perform stability studies, and optimize filling processes under representative conditions. This step is intended to de-risk scale-up, providing a faster and more informed path to commercial GMP production.
“Based on the already successful collaboration of ten23 with BD for the BD iDFill solution (RFID-enabled PFS/containers), we are happy to expand our collaboration to also include BD Liberta Wearable Injector platform,” said Prof. Dr. Hanns-Christian Mahler, CEO at ten23 health. He emphasized that the company’s experience with a range of devices makes it an ideal partner for subcutaneous delivery options, aligning with the mission of enabling successful patient treatment.
The BD Libertas Wearable Injector is a pre-fillable drug delivery system for combination products. It is designed for subcutaneous administration of high-dose biologics, facilitating a potential transition from intravenous delivery. The system designed to deliver complex biologics with viscosities up to 50 cP in 2-5 mL and 5-10 mL configurations, at home or in clinical settings.
